Well, I don't know that it's different in Massachusetts per se (except of course your ethernet cables get colder in winter. :), but naturally it depends on what you're targeting. I notice you're in Hopkinton, for example. Google estimates 83,000 results returned for Hopkinton real estate. I made the claim above based on Placerville, which shows approximately 63,100 results, and for "Placerville real estate" I find nothing in ActiveRain for the first several pages -- however I'm #2 for a site I put up five years ago with no blog at all.

In a few days I'll argue for a web site plus blog combo. I have such a site, and it's #1 and #2 for a keyword with 636,000 results (or 1.4 million on a good day).

Congratulations on your listings, and thanks for your note.

I don't agree with your statement "If I write for ActiveRain, I get a free service and that’s great, but what we’re selling on every page is not something that’s going to lead a visitor to use me — what we’re selling on every page are products and services aimed at Realtors®." How did you arrive at that conclusion. I have been on Active Rain since July and have gotten four new listings directly from having a blog at AR.

Also you mention that when doing searches on something anything close to the short tail your posts are buried. I have not experienced this either. Maybe in Massachusetts it is different? My blog is on the 1st page for most short tail descriptions and ALWAYS no further than the 2nd page. All my posts make 1st page of google for anything resembling the long tail.
